Time for a reboot

Life is complicated. I want to write about a lot of things.

But the simple fact is that I do not live in a country where they even pretend to have freedom of speech. Writing the wrong kinds of things here can endanger my status in this country.

I am a boss. Things that I write may reflect badly on my company, professional image, customers or employees. Not to mention put my career at risk.

I am a family man. Friends and acquaintances of my family could read this and take things the wrong way. It could cause friendships to strain. It could cause rumors or preconceptions to form.

And I am a computer nerd. I understand that what is written on the internet, stays on the internet. Even after blogs like this are long deleted and forgotten.

Ay, there is the rub. I love to write about what I experience, what I find funny, what I love and dislike. I love to keep my friends and family updated on what is going on in my life. But there is simply too much risk in doing so.

It would be nice to say that other peoples opinions don’t matter. But the truth is that they do. So it with much personal regret that this will probably be the last post on this blog.

To my friends, I will send out updates every now and then via email. To everyone else, I bid you a fond farewell and I wish you happiness in all you do.

Is this thing on?

Imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning and remembered I had a blog. This old, dusty and very neglected blog. Lets see if I can breath some new life into this thing.

China BloggerCon

I went to the Chinese BloggerCon last weekend.  It was my first blogger convention, ever.

Even though it was much different than what I expected, it was really a great experience and I look forward to attending future Chinese BloggerCons.

There were many great presentations given on the importance of citizen journalisim, the history of the Chinese Internet, the way the Internet brings people closer together and how it is a force for change.  Every speaker brought a different view and struck a different set of emotional and mental chords.

Even though the speaches were mostly in Chinese, I was able to understand what was going on due to the wonderful (and free) translators Lonnie Hodge was able to coax into coming from the university he teaches at.

During breaks I was able to talk with and meet many new friends including, Shel Isreal, Robert Scoble, Paul Denlinger, John Biesnecker, Lonnie Hodge, Jon Phillips and many other great folks.

Of course a special shout out goes to Rocky, to whom I will probably always be known as Tim.

The organizers, Isaac Mao, Lemoned and Lonson did an amazing job putting this event together.

I look forward to seeing you all at the next Chinese Bloggercon.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to one and all.  I hope you are all with someone you love, or someone in your family.  Or perhaps both if you are really lucky, or well adjusted.

I am spending tonight with my lovely wife, who gets prettier every year, my mother-in-law, who gets sweeter every year, ayi #1, who always seems happy, ayi #2, who isn’t very good but she really tries hard, and my two 6 month old boys, Wyatt & Cyrus, who give my face a reason to smile and my ears a reason to bleed.

Gwailo

P.S. Added this new theme today.  I think it really sets the mood here well.  What do you think?
